CSR Lecture at The University of Leicester as the first Japanese enterprise
On August 2016, our CSR department officer Mutsuo Minowa gave a lecture to MBA students at the University of Leicester in the UK for the first time as a Japanese enterprise. Minowa explained our strategic CSR, which started from a historical verification of the Three-Way-Good from Omi Merchants philosophy. This lecture was arranged by Professor Wagner of the University of Leicester, who is famous in CSR research, showed interest in our CSR.
Typical Activities in Our CSR
Since establishment, we have integrated our values and advantage with business and developed our business, with the principle to “resolve issues that our customers have about their hair". We categorized our activities into four themes, "Social and Regional Contributions", “Comfort and Safety for Customer”, “Environmental Efforts" and "Academic and Cultural Activities”.
Through our hair-related business, we have continued to make efforts in various activities, both domestically and outside Japan, as we consider ways to spread smile and joy not only for our customers who use Aderans Group products but broadly across society.
The Love Charity was introduced in 1978 to provide custom-made wigs to children aged four to 15 who have lost their hair due to some sort of trauma, such as sickness or injury
Wig Donation to Thailand Hospital
At the Thailand factory, we donate new prototype wigs to the local hospital. In the past, we discarded prototype wigs because of operational issues, but since 2012, the challenge has been solved so that we can donate to Thailand hospital.
Reduction of human hair usage by artificial hair
Human hair has been always used for the custom-made wig. Aderans Group has carried out research on artificial hair since 1983 due to the difficulties to secure a stable procurement of human hair. With successful development on its quality akin to that of human, artificial hair has been used for Aderans' products namely "Cyber Hair" and "Vital Hair" since 1990.
The Aderans Group carries “heartfelt service” as one of the management philosophies that it “aims to achieve”. We have continued our activities, which involve the entire company as a united body and are deployed to raise the satisfaction level and trust of our customers.
Barrier-free Barber and Beauty Salons
Since September 2002, the Aderans Group has been organizing barber shops and beauty salons at hospitals and offering various support to patients with delicate issues over their hair due to their illnesses and treatments.
Seminar on Appropriate Services in Medical Care
All staff involved in medical-use wig sales are required to attend a seminar on medical care presented by outside speakers. More than 1,800 employees have attended our medical care seminars, underpinning a system that allows customers to purchase products with peace of mind.
Medical Wig JIS Standardisation
Medical Wig was approved as the world first national standard for wigs on 20 April 2015. In JIS process, Aderans Group played a leadership role in the industry.
The Aderans Group considers the reduction of environmental burdens such as CO2 emissions as a corporate social responsibility and is moving forward in its efforts for the environment, such as environmental adaptability of its products and reductions of CO2 emissions in its offices.
Fontaine Green Forest Campaign
Since 2009, we have been involved in an initiative, dubbed "Fontaine Green Forest Campaign”. This project has been recognized by Prof. Wagner from University of Leicester that "it is a very unique activity which successfully has both aspects of social contributions and sales, along with sustainability”.
Collaboration with Sakura Namiki Network
We expanded our "Fontaine Green Forest Campaign". By taking advantage of Aderans strength, our nationwide sales office, we are planning to expand our support for environmental conservation all over Japan.From 2016, we started supporting the NPO Sakura Namiki Network.
Mold making system by 3D scanner
By introducing the new mold making system, we actively manage to be environmentally friendly since we can reduce the amount of fitting materials. It also leads to the reduction of power usage because both domestic and internationaltransportation of those objects are no longer required.
To realize a society that is full of “smile” and “joy”, we have focused on activities in the area of “hair and wigs”, where it can leverage the strengths of the Aderans Group.
“Studio AD”, experts in wig and hair and makeup
We have contributed the wig culture in Japan. Our original wigs for the performing arts have been used in various theaters, movies, TVs and concerts.
Collaborative research with academic institutions
Aderans Group has been collaboratively working on a variety of themes with universities and research institutions. We improve our merchandises by using achievement of those research based on academic advice and proven data. It helps us to enhance customer satisfaction and expand our business.
Encouragement and Support for Shining Women
We have encouraged and supported, such as wig contribution or make up service, for Shining Women, who live in their own way.
Our CSR activities, are also undertaken at the overseas subsidiaries of the Aderans Group in 17 countries, linked with the efforts being made in Japan.
Support for “My New Hair”
“My New Hair” is a charity organization for people suffering from cancer and medical hair loss, set up by world class hair stylist Trevor Sorbie. Aderans UK, our group company in the United Kingdom, supplies wigs to the charity and provides coaching to beauticians in providing hair cuts.
Donation to American Institute for Cancer Research
Bosley has donated a part of the sale to American Institute for Cancer Research once a year. From 2015, Bosley changed to conduct throughout the year and donate according to the sales during pink ribbon period.
Wig Production in Global Factory
We started a wig production factory in 1986 in Thailand, 2002 in the Philippines, and 2015 in Laos. We aim to cooperate with various local communities including for employment.
